2025-26 Detroit News boys basketball Dream Team

Here is the Detroit News boys basketball All-State Dream Team for the 2025-26 season.

➤ K.J. Torbert, 6-3, Sr. G., East Lansing

The Mr. Basketball award winner, Torbert took a big leap from his junior to senior year, averaging over 25 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists a game to help East Lansing reach the Division 1 state championship game for a second straight year. Torbert his a memorable game-winning 3-pointer in the waning seconds of a semifinal win over Birmingham Brother Rice. He has signed with Bowling Green. 

➤ Jaylohn Allen, 6-1, Sr. G, Wayne Memorial

A Mr. Basketball finalist who has signed with Toledo, Allen carried Wayne Memorial on his shoulders all year, helping guide a younger team to a Division 1 state quarterfinal berth. Allen averaged over 21 points a game and finished with more than 1,700 career points, in the process becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer. 

➤ James Martin, 6-4, Sr. G/F, Muskegon

Signed with Detroit Mercy, the Mr. Basketball finalist was the go-to-guy all season for Muskegon, averaging 23 points, nine rebounds, four assists and 2.9 steals per game. In a district final loss to eventual state champion Rockford, Martin scored 48 points, 35 of which came in the second half. 

➤ Cam Ryans, 6-5, Sr. G/F, Grand Rapids Northview

The runner-up to Torbert in the Mr. Basketball voting, Ryans nearly willed his team to the state’s Final Four, with Northview losing by just one to Rockford in a quarterfinal. A clutch player who could score in many ways, Ryans averaged 23.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.7 steals, shooting 54.9% from the field. After initially signing with Western Michigan, he has reopened his college recruitment after a coaching change at WMU. 

➤ Jake Bascom, 6-6, Sr. F, Rockford

The leading scorer on the Division 1 state champions, the Central Michigan signee capped off a fine high school career by averaging 17.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He could do it all in the post, whether it was scoring from inside and out, passing, rebounding or defending.  

➤ Head coach, John Fattal, Freeland

In his seventh season, Fattal helped develop over the years the core of Freeland’s team. This year he and his staff guided Freeland to the Division 2 state championship, its first in school history. Freeland was the only team in Michigan to beat Romulus Summit Academy, in a semifinal, before knocking off Hudsonville Unity Christian in the championship game.
