It hasn’t been too exciting of a start to the transfer portal for the UCLA Bruins. Mick Cronin landed a pair of Europeans in Filip Jovic and Sergej Macura but outside of those two forwards, it’s been quiet for the Bruins.
It’s not like UCLA doesn’t have holes to fill, Cronin will have to find at least three new starters. There’s a chance that Skyy Clark returns back to the program but currently UCLA’s building blocks are Eric Dailey Jr., Eric Freeny, Trent Perry and Xavier Booker.
UCLA will need to add this offseason, and On3 Sports reporter Joe Tipton says that the Bruins have shown interest in Tulane guard Rowan Brumbaugh, who entered the portal earlier this week.
According to Tipton, there’s a chance that Brumbaugh heads to the NBA depending on how much interest is shown ahead of the NBA Draft process. You can’t blame Brumbaugh for testing the waters, he averaged 19.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season for the Green Wave.
The 6’4” guard just wrapped up his third collegiate season, spending the last two with Tulane after playing at Georgetown as a freshman. Brumbaugh’s 36.1% career three-point percentage doesn’t jump off the page but he’s averaged more than five attempts per game since transferring to Tulane.
UCLA’s not alone in their interest in Brumbaugh. The Bruins were one of 10 teams that Tipton said were showing interest in Brumbaugh. Among those 10 schools are Big Ten rival Illinois and Indiana.
The Bruins need to bring in some more talent this offseason and landing Brumbaugh would be a major step to giving Cronin some scoring to rely upon next season.
