Woodworth powers Tri-City softball to win | Top performers

Spring in Illinois is completely unpredictable, but as long as the weather mildly cooperates, soccer fields, along with baseball and softball diamonds, are in full use.

High school baseball, softball and girls soccer season continue to hum along while track prepares for its upcoming outdoor season. Here readers can find results for all local high school sporting events sent to The State Journal-Register by coaches and found on GameChanger from March 23-28. If your team’s results aren’t included, please ask the coach or scorekeeper to email results to sports@sj-r.com.

Friday, March 27 

SOFTBALL 

Game of the Day 

Buffalo Tri-City 5, Warrensburg-Latham 4 

Winning pitcher Lily Woodworth drove in Maebri Bender with the go-ahead run on a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Tornadoes rallied to improve to 6-0.  

Down 3-0 in the fourth, Tiffany Farley doubled in a run, and Bender added an RBI single. Hayli Ferriell and Woodworth gave the Tornadoes a 4-3 lead on a pair of RBI groundouts. Warrensburg-Latham tied the game with a run in the fifth.  

Bender finished 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Woodworth struck out seven, walked six and allowed four hits and four runs (three earned). 

Stars of the Day 

Ryleigh Kiel, Chatham Glenwood: The center fielder collected two hits with a double and tallied three RBIs and two runs in Glenwood’s 11-0 win over Edwardsville in five innings of Game 1 of a doubleheader. On the mound, Alyvia Streb struck out four, walked none and tossed a three-hitter.  

Sophia Feld/Irie Lohrenz, Chatham Glenwood: Feld (3-for-3, three runs) doubled twice and tripled and Lohrenz threw a six-inning, one-hit shutout as Glenwood beat Edwardsville 10-0 in Game 2 of a doubleheader. Lohrenz homered and struck out seven with no walks, while Kiel (4-for-4) also homered.  

Hannah Louis/Elle Smithers, Williamsville: Louis and Smithers combined for four hits, eight RBIs and four runs as the Bullets defeated Lincoln 12-2 in five innings. Louis homered twice and Smithers homered as well.  

Taryn Clarke, Raymond Lincolnwood: Clarke had a pair of hits, including a double, and finished with five RBIs and two runs in the Lancers’ 19-4, four-inning win over Riverton. Hannah Hill went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored twice. 

Aspen Kitowski/Kayden Skinner, Pleasant Plains: Kitowski had two hits with a solo home run and scored twice, and Skinner threw a complete game in Plains’ 5-3 win over Red Bud. Skinner allowed two hits and no earned runs and went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kitowski went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs as Plains beat Anna-Jonesboro 7-4 in another game.   

Italee Ford, Rushville-Industry: Ford struck out six, walked one and threw a no-hitter as the Rockets defeated Carthage Illini West 14-0 in five innings. She finished 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs. Gabby Sorrell went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.  

BASEBALL 

Game of the Day 

Troy Triad 1, Chatham Glenwood 0 

Carter Gaskill scored a run on an error in the bottom of the second inning, and the Knights clipped the Titans in a nonconference game.  

Gaskill reached first base to start the second on a Glenwood error and stole second base. Kannon Seipp’s ground ball induced the error that scored the only run.  

Glenwood’s Quinten Hale was the tough luck losing pitcher after allowing just one hit and no earned runs with five strikeouts and three walks in five innings. 

Winning pitcher Nolan Keller went the distance, striking out seven, walking one and giving up five hits. Tucker Murphy and Hale had two hits apiece for Glenwood.  

Stars of the Day 

Max Johnson/Ian Behl, Pleasant Plains: Johnson threw a five-inning no-hitter and Behl (2-for-2) homered and drove in four runs in Plains’ 13-0 win over Peoria Christian. Johnson struck out two and walked one, and Jaxon Boon doubled, tripled and finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.  

Jacob Brown, Jacksonville Routt: Brown finished 4-for-5 with two runs in Routt’s 12-4 win over Pawnee. Brady Turner (3-for-3, three RBIs), Anson Butcher (3-for-4, RBI) and Dalton Brown (3-for-3, two RBIs) combined for nine hits with five for extra bases. 

Jaeden Jackson, Mount Pulaski: The third baseman doubled twice and scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to help the Hilltoppers beat Williamsville 5-4. Chase Roberts finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Keoni Charron tripled and drove in a run.  

Drew Ward, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Ward finished 2-for-4 and a scored a run, but the Cyclones (6-1) lost to St. Joseph Ogden 7-3 for their first defeat of the season.  

Reese Bohlen, Staunton: Bohlen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as Staunton lost to Breese Central 14-3 in five innings.    

Thursday, March 26 

SOFTBALL  

Games of the Day 

Athens 5, Warrensburg-Latham 4  

Kenzie Szoke hit a walk-off single that scored Isabel Ingram in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Warriors improved to 4-0.  

Athens trailed 4-1 in the fourth inning before scoring one run each in the final four innings. Szoke had an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth, and Livi Rhoades added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 4-3. Preslie Buckmaster doubled in a run to tie the game in the sixth.  

Szoke finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Ingram had three hits and two runs. Winning pitcher Mackenzie Ratliff threw three scoreless innings in relief, allowing three hits and one walk.  

Buffalo Tri-City 2, Raymond Lincolnwood 1 

Tri-City scored two runs on an error in the top of the seventh inning, and the Tornadoes pulled out an MSM Conference win.  

Lily Woodworth and Emma Cummins started the seventh with singles and went to second and third on a Lincolnwood error. They both scored when Audrey Cooper hit a ground ball after the Lancers committed another error.

Woodworth was the winning pitching, striking out 10, walking zero and allowing seven hits and one earned run. Losing pitcher Tori Elvidge fanned 10, walked two and allowed six hits and no earned runs. Audrey Germann drove in the only run for the Lancers with a single in the fourth.   

Stars of the Day 

Kylynn Maltby/Ava Knous, Beardstown: Maltby (3-for-3, four runs, three RBIs) doubled and homered and Knous (2-for-3) drove in four runs as Beardstown defeated White Hall North Greene 17-1 in four innings. Khloe Kearns (2-for-3, three RBIs) homered, and Mia Simpson (2-for-3, three RBIs, homer) and Autumn Bowman (2-for-2, three runs, two RBIs) contributed as Beardstown improved to 5-0. 

Payton Harding/Hallie Gibson, Carlinville: Harding finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and Gibson struck out 13 and gave up five hits and three runs (none earned) on four walks in Carlinville’s 6-3 victory over Nokomis. 

Lainey Lessman, Hillsboro: Lessman struck out five in three perfect innings, and she finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs in Hillsboro’s 21-0, four-inning win over Mulberry Grove. Kaya Connor (3-for-3, two runs) drove in three runs and Peyton Chappelear went 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs.  

Madolyn Howerter/Ava Kramer, Havana: Howerter struck out nine in a complete-game performance and Kramer had a hit and two RBIs to lift Havana past Lewistown 6-1.   

Aubrey Vogel, Petersburg PORTA: Vogel finished 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and four RBIs in PORTA’s 21-0, four-inning win over North Mac. Regan Heubner went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. 

Jolianna Morrison, Pana: Morrison had two hits with a double and drove in four runs in Pana’s 16-5 win over Ramsey in six innings. Bella Bennett homered, collected two hits and ended with three RBIs. 

Devin Vogler/Gabby Sorrell, Rushville-Industry: Vogler (3-for-4, four runs, three RBIs) popped a home run and Sorrell (two RBIs) had a double with her three hits as the Rockets beat Peyson Seymour 12-2 in five innings.     

Skylar Meats, Auburn: Meats singled and drove in a run in Auburn’s 8-2 loss to Concord Triopia.  

BASEBALL 

Stars of the Day 

Carson Butler, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Butler finished 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs as SHG posted a 14-1 win in five innings over Arlington Heights Hersey. Winning pitcher Chase Beckham allowed just two hits and struck out eight, while Ethan Cour belted a three-run home run. 

Isaac Repscher, Taylorville: Repscher, the winning pitcher, went 5-for-5 with five RBIs and four runs scored in Taylorville’s 20-2, five-inning win over Hillsboro. He struck out 10, walked one and gave up just one hit and no earned runs. Carter Cappellin was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.  

Camden Early, North Mac: Early finished 2-for-3 with two runs and was the winning pitcher in the Panthers’ 4-2 victory over Athens. Early pitched six innings and recorded seven strikeouts with two walks. Luke Alexander had a two-run double.  

Caleb McDaniel, Havana: McDaniel threw a four-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk in Havana’s 18-0 win over Illini Central/Hartem. Carter Brooks, Bradyn Willing and McDaniel combined for seven hits, 10 RBIs and eight runs. 

Nolan Robinson, New Berlin: Robinson went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and hurled four innings in a 13-2 win over Litchfield. He struck out five, walked three and gave up one hit and two runs (none earned). Carson Dodd (2-for-3) had two RBIs and Hurley Bennett (2-for-2, RBI) doubled.  

Carder Burris/Brylan Miller, Pana: Burris and Miller combined on a four-hit shutout and Pana defeated Riverton 8-0. Burris didn’t allow a hit in 3 1/3 innings, and Miller finished the game with two strikeouts and no walks. Madyx Angel went 3-for-4 with an RBI.  

Brodey VanHooser/Luke Pope, Morrisonville/Raymond Lincolnwood: Vanhooser and Pope combined for four hits, five RBIs and four runs in an 11-2 win over Buffalo Tri-City. Mason Tryon went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.  

Izaak Doyen/Blain Goodwin, Nokomis: Doyen and Goodwin combined for four hits, four runs and an RBI as Nokomis defeated Edinburg/South Fork 14-1 in five innings. 

Cole Hatcher/Owen Johnson, Pleasant Plains: Hatcher pitched a complete and allowed just one earned run and a walk, but Plains lost to Belleville East 5-4. Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Plains’ 13-5 loss to Harrisburg.    

GIRLS SOCCER 

Carlinville Kickoff Classic 

Blakely Swan scored three goals and Mylee Ribble netted two, and Carlinville defeated Riverton 7-0 at the Kickoff Classic.  

In other games at the classic, North Mac shut out Lincoln 4-0, and Greenville edged Auburn 1-0. Roxana downed Gillespie 5-2.  

Brooklynn Lowder/Mia Conner, Rochester: Lowder and Conner put in two goals apiece in Rochester’s 9-0 win over Decatur MacArthur.

Wednesday, March 25 

BASEBALL 

Game of the Day 

Chatham Glenwood 4, Springfield High 1 

Landon Leach struck out two, but limited SHS to three hits, no runs and two walks in four innings to earn the win at Community Park.  

Andrew Schwartz, Cole Woodward and Michael Lucas all had RBIs for the Titans.  

Carter Borah got the tough-luck loss. He went the distance, allowed four hits and four unearned runs against two walks and a strikeout for the Senators.  

Stars of the Day 

Jack Rholk, Jacksonville: The Crimsons’ freshman went 3-for-4 with two triples and drove in two runs as Jacksonville beat Hardin Calhoun 10-7 in a nonconference game. Teammate Nolan Peters doubled and drove in three runs.  

Lucas Coalson, Staunton: The No. 8 hitter went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs as Staunton defeated Dupo 11-1 in five innings. Teammate Luke Moore struck out nine in four innings for the win.  

Mathew Bywater, Litchfield: He was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored as the Purple Panthers beat Lanphier 15-0 in five innings at Robin Roberts Stadium. Teammate Ethan Saathoff homered and Max Leitschuh also had three hits and scored three runs.  

Blake Killam/Michael Kaganich, Carlinville: The pair of Cavaliers combined to drive in seven runs as Carlinville held on to beat Greenfield-Northwestern 9-8 in eight innings. Killam was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Kaganich doubled and drove in three. Carlinville (2-0) won in the bottom of the eighth when Colin McKinney was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs.  

Will Trojahn/Aaron Bly, Southeast: Trojahn, the Spartans’ No. 8 hitter, and Bly, in the No. 7 spot, were the only Southeast players with a hit as Pekin beat Southeast 6-1.  

Ty Springer, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Ty Springer went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBIs and two runs as the Cyclones beat Champaign Central 12-3. Carson Butler also drove in three for the Cyclones and pitcher Will Pennell went the distance and gave up six hits, three runs — two unearned — with a walk and he struck out nine.  

Colby Desollar, Beardstown: Desollar homered, went 2-for-2, drove in four runs and scored twice as the Tigers doubled up Canton 8-4. Teammate Caleb Hobrock also had a pair of hits with a homer.  

Rylan Reimolds, Rushville-Industry: He struck out eight and allowed two runs, both unearned, on two hits over 6 2/3 innings, but was on the wrong end of a 3-2 decision to Camp Point Central. Reimolds also drove in a run for the Rockets and teammate Bradley Hollingsworth had the only hit for Rushville.  

Kenneth Baker, Athens: The Warriors’ No. 2 hitter went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored as Athens beat Winchester West Central 7-5. Carter Brock also added two RBIs on a pair of hits, including a double.  

Frank Stefano, Rochester: He had two doubles and drove in a run as Rochester fell 11-3 to Normal U-High.  

SOFTBALL 

Game of the Day 

Pana 6, Pawnee 5 

At Pana, Pana pitcher Joey Laker was tagged for five runs in the fifth inning, but regained her form from the first four innings to keep Pawnee scoreless over the final two frames for the nonconference win.  

Pana led 6-0 after scoring two in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth before Pawnee’s eruption.  

Jolianna Morrison led Pana’s offense with two RBIs as the No. 8 hitter. Laker doubled for the Panthers while Kennedy Bowker tripled and knocked in a run.  

Elissa Day led Pawnee’s offense by going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.  

Stars of the Day 

Kenzie Wieland, Sacred Heart-Griffin: She allowed just three hits and struck out 11 to lead SHG past Maroa-Forsyth 3-0. Rayleigh O’Brien gave her plenty of offensive production with a two-run single in the top of the fourth. O’Brien had two hits, including a double.  

Grace Burris, Staunton: Burris helped her own cause in the circle by going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a double as Staunton beat Dupo 5-4. She also struck out 11 in 6 1/3 innings pitched. Kelsey Wempe also went 3-for-3 for the Bulldogs.  

Hannah Louis, Williamsville: She struck out five and allowed four hits in a complete-game shutout as Williamsville beat Washington 5-0. She was also 2-for-3 with a double.  

Peyton Purves, Rochester: Purves was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Isabella Harness had two hits and drove in two more runs as Rochester (3-2) beat Quincy Notre Dame 8-5. Molly Eichholz also had two RBIs while Kendall Edmonson (2-0) allowed five runs — three earned — and six hits against 11 strikeouts and no walks to earn the win.  

Ava Parish/Laci Schuckenbrock, Gillespie: Both players homered and drove in four runs each as Gillespie clobbered Nokomis 19-3 in four innings. Schuckenbrock hammered a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to end the game. Sadie Sholtis was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs for the Miners and also picked up the win in the circle.  

Madi Rimar, Litchfield: The Purple Panthers’ No. 8 hitter was 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 7-6 loss to Collinsville.  

Kylynn Maltby, Beardstown: With two home runs and 3-for-3 day to go with three RBIs, Maltby led the Tigers past Payson Seymour 11-0 in five innings. Khloe Kearns struck out 10 in a complete-game shutout.  

Peyton Chappelear, Hillsboro: She went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored while teammate Mikenna McSperritt hit a three-run double and finished with five RBIs as Hillsboro beat Ramsey 11-7.  

Laurynn Mayberry, Lincoln: She struck out seven and allowed just two walks in a no-hit win over Springfield High. Sage Gilbert and Emma Hutchison each had RBIs for the Railsplitters.  

MacKenzie Ratliff, Athens: She struck out six in a complete-game shutout as Athens beat Winchester West Central 11-0 in six innings. Kenzie Szoke and Aubrey Crispen each homered for the Warriors, who had 13 hits. Crispen was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.  

Calli Smith/Tenley Foster, New Berlin: The pair of Pretzels scored runs in the fourth inning to pull New Berlin into a 2-2 tie before Pittsfield won 4-2. Smith scored on an RBI groundout by Zoey Morris to get New Berlin within 2-1. Foster stole home for the game-tying score. Smith also struck out eight in the loss.  

GIRLS SOCCER

Callie Wagner, Pleasant Plains: The junior registered a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Sacred Heart-Griffin. Caroline Willenborg added two goals, while Ro Fraase had three assists. Bailey Leach chipped in a goal and two assists.

Tuesday, March 24 

SOFTBALL 

Game of the Day 

Jacksonville 2, Lincoln 1 

Winning pitcher Kenzie Law scored on a walk-off single by Maggie Gerard in the bottom of the seventh inning, and the Crimsons edged the Railers.

Law walked to start the seventh and went to second on a Lincoln error. Gerard’s base hit came with one out.  

The Railers took a 1-0 lead when Morgan Sheley bunted and reached first base on an error that scored Preslee Sherren in the second. The Crimsons tied the game in the fourth on a solo home run by Chase Niece. 

Law went the distance, striking out three, walking three and allowing six hits and one run (none earned). Grey Gilbert finished 3-for-4 for Lincoln. 

Stars of the Day 

Gracyn Lewis/Sydney Feld, Chatham Glenwood: Lewis and Feld both hit two home runs and finished with three RBIs apiece in Glenwood’s 12-1, six-inning win over Mount Zion. Jemma Lamb (two RBIs, three runs) doubled and homered and winning pitcher Irie Lohrenz threw a two-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk. 

Lucy Wegner/Maggie Wichmann, Sacred Heart-Griffin: Wegner and Wichmann combined for five hits, nine RBIs and four runs in SHG’s 20-6, five-inning victory over Decatur MacArthur. Wegner doubled twice and Wichmann had two triples.  

Delaney Murphy/Delaina Manuel, Pleasant Plains: The 1-2 combo provided four hits, five runs and two RBIs as Plains defeated Havana 9-3. Aspen Kitowski (two RBIs) added a run-scoring triple, and Lexie Shimkus had a hit and finished with three RBIs.  

Olivia Heigert/Elle Smithers, Williamsville: Heigert struck out nine and yielded just two hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings of Williamsville’s 8-0 victory over Tremont. She also had two hits with a double and two RBIs, and Smithers went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs. 

Laci Schuckenbrock, Gillespie: Schuckenbrock was 5-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs in Gillespie’s 15-9 road win over Auburn. Ava Rakers added three hits with a double and two RBIs.  

Lainey Lessman, Hillsboro: Lessman pitched a five-inning complete game and smacked a two-run home run in Hillsboro’s 15-2 win over Shelbyville. Lessman struck out four, walked none and allowed five hits, while Peyton Chappelear doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a run.  

Audrey Cooper/Lily Woodworth, Buffalo Tri-City: Cooper (2-for-4, two runs) drove in two runs and Woodworth tossed a two-hit shutout as Tri-City defeated Raymond Lincolnwood 10-0 in six innings. Woodworth struck out six and walked one, and Hanna Ferriell went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. 

Peyton DeMichael, Taylorville: The winning pitcher didn’t allow an earned run on five hits and went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in Taylorville’s 7-1 win at Litchfield. DeMichael struck out five and walked one, and Carsen Corzine and Grace Rogers both doubled and finished with three RBIs apiece. 

Megan Bright, Petersburg PORTA: Bright had a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in two runs as PORTA defeated Quincy Notre Dame 11-1 in five innings. Winning pitcher Mackenzie Miller gave up one earned run on five hits to go with one strikeout and one walk. 

Norah Kingery, Pana: Kingery had a 3-for-3 performance with a double and four RBIs as Pana piled up a 21-5, four-inning win over Cowden Herrick/Beecher City. Addasyn Casner tripled, collected three hits and scored four runs, and Bri Mathis (2-for-3, four runs) doubled and drove in three. 

Kendall Edmonson, Rochester: Edmonson finished 3-for-5 with a double, but Rochester gave up six runs in the top of the 10th inning and lost to Normal U-High 6-0 in a Central State Eight Conference game. Starting pitcher Jaelyn Watts got a no-decision after throwing eight scoreless and recording 10 strikeouts.       

Joaney Flowers, Rushville-Industry: Flowers was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts, and she supplied three hits and three RBIs in the Rockets’ 17-5 victory over Griggsville-Perry in five innings. Italee Ford doubled three times, scored three runs and drove in two.  

BASEBALL 

Game of the Day 

Havana 1, Petersburg PORTA 0 

Carter Brooks reached on an error at second base, and Oscar Jones scored the walk-off run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.  

Brooks pitched a complete game. He gave up just three hits and recorded seven strikeouts and two walks.  

Ethan Hoagland threw 2 2/3 innings and took the loss in relief for PORTA. He allowed no earned runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Levi Hoagland was the starter, allowing one hit in four innings and fanned nine and walked one. 

Stars of the Day 

Karter Marks, Springfield High: Marks hit a two-run inside-the-park home run and also had a two-run single in Springfield’s 12-1 win over Lanphier in five innings. Brody Scheffler struck out nine, walked none and allowed one hit in four innings of work. 

Braden Reich, Gillespie: Reich contributed on the mound and at the plate as Gillespie defeated Auburn 15-3. Reich doubled in a run, had a solo homer and pitched three innings in relief with nine strikeouts, one walk and one allowed hit. Winning pitcher Brayden Enslow and reliever Dawson Lancaster shared a one-hitter with Reich. 

Gavin Greer, Pawnee: The sophomore tripled and delivered two hits with two RBIs and two runs in a 15-3 win over Lutheran. Hudson Wort had a hit and two RBIs. 

AJ Charpentier, Jacksonville: The senior totaled 14 strikeouts and gave up one earned run on three hits and one walk in a 10-3 win over Lincoln. Talan Harney had two hits and two RBIs. Ryan Headen, Jack Rohlk and Nolan Peters each had a hit and two RBIs.  

Ethan Saathoff, Litchfield: The senior picked up the win in five innings. He fanned seven and allowed one run on five hits and two walks in a 3-2 win over Taylorville. Max Leitschuh had a double, RBI and run. 

Jhude Walker, Morrisonville/Lincolnwood: The senior provided two doubles and ended 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs in a 14-1 win over Buffalo Tri-City.  

Kannon Jonas, Nokomis: The junior supplied three hits and three RBIs in a 12-4 win over Edinburg/Kincaid South Fork. Levi German also had three hits, including two doubles. 

Drew Ward, Sacred Heart-Griffin: The senior leadoff hitter rapped out two hits and three runs in a 7-2 win over Decatur MacArthur/Eisenhower. Austin Rutter, Tyler Springer and Rowan Mizeur had two hits apiece as well. 

Bryson Trickey, Williamsville: The first baseman ushered two hits and two runs in a 7-1 win over Pittsfield. Gage Ratliff was 2-for-4, while Wyatt Patton had a 2-RBI double. Collin Grosenheider struck out five in four innings and gave up just two hits. 

Cash Lynch, Pana: Lynch had three hits and scored a run, but Windsor/Stewardson Strasburg scored five runs in the fifth inning to beat the Panthers 6-2. 

Carter Legendre, Staunton: The first baseman went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Staunton’s 14-4, five-inning defeat to Roxana.

Stars of the Day

Brooklyn Lowder, Rochester: The senior doled out four goals and an assist in a 9-0 win over Lincoln. Mary Jane Keller had a goal and two assists. 

Mia Calderon, Chatham Glenwood: She scored the tying goal in a 1-1 tie against Sacred Heart-Griffin. Samantha Perryman scored for the Cyclones.

BASEBALL 

Games of the Day 

Petersburg PORTA 3, Litchfield 0  

Nash Donnan hurled a no-hitter and the Bluejays scratched across a couple of runs late to record the shutout.  

Donnan struck out 11 and walked one on 82 pitches. PORTA took a 1-0 lead when Ethan Hoagland lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that scored courtesy runner Lucas Kinney, who was running for Donnan after he opened the inning with a single. 

The Bluejays added two more runs when Jett Karrick hit a sacrifice fly, and Donnan got an RBI on a groundout for some insurance in the seventh. 

Springfield High 1, Dunlap 0 

Caiden Bietsch pitched six scoreless innings, and the Senators scored a run in the bottom of the second inning to pull out a win at Robin Roberts Stadium. 

Bietsch struck out two, walked one and limited Dunlap to two hits. Alex Heyen pitched a clean seventh inning with two strikeouts.  

Wade Snyder, who walked twice, scored the only run of the game when Carter Magalis reached on an error.  

Stars of the Day 

Caleb Cox/Cam Cox, Lutheran: Caleb and Cam combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter as Lutheran defeated Mason City Illini Central 11-1. Caleb struck out six, walked two and allowed one run (none earned) in two innings. Cam pitched three perfect innings with five strikeouts and no walks.  AJ Ozier went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. 

Bryce Coalson/Carter Legendre, Staunton: Coalson (3-for-4, three RBIs, three runs) doubled and hit a three-run home run, and Legendre launched a three-run homer and finished with four RBIs as Staunton outslugged Morrisonville 11-8.

Hudson Wort/Gavin Greer, Pawnee: Wort and Greer both went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs each in Pawnee’s 11-6 victory over Athens. Wort doubled and tripled and Greer doubled.

Noah Convery, Carlinville: Convery struck out 10 and didn’t allow an earned run in five innings of work as Carlinville defeated Auburn 5-1. He walked one and yielded three hits, while going 2-for-2 at the plate and driving in a run. 

Nolan Robinson, New Berlin: Robinson went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs as the Pretzels beat Concord Triopia 9-2. Michael Callahan collected three hits and scored twice. 

Kannon Jonas/Nolan Herpstreith, Nokomis: Jonas (2-for-3, two runs) drove in three runs and Herpstreith finished 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in Nokomis’ 17-11 win over North Mac. Carter Wexstten (2-for-2, RBI) scored four runs. 

Brady Turner, Jacksonville Routt: Turner broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run triple in the third inning and Routt defeated Riverton 4-1. Oliver Smith (2-for-3) scored a run, and winning pitcher Sam Long struck out six and gave up one earned run in five innings.   

Jax Czaikowski, Pana: The catcher/pitcher finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs as Pana scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to defeat Cowden/Herrick 12-2. 

Carter Brock, Athens: Brock cracked a grand slam, had an RBI double and finished with five RBIs in Athens’ 11-6 loss at Pawnee. 

Brodey VanHooser/Mason Tryon, Morrisonville: VanHooser (3-for-3, two RBIs) doubled twice, and Tryon (2-for-4, three RBIs) doubled in Morrisonville’s 11-8 loss to Staunton. 

Luke Alexander/Collin Etter, North Mac: The duo had three hits each, combined to score four runs and drove in one run apiece in North Mac’s 17-11 loss to Nokomis.   

Owen Byerline, Buffalo Tri-City: Byerline had a pair of triples and drove in two runs in Tri-City’s 17-7 loss to Macon Meridian. 

Caleb Hobrock, Beardstown: Hobrock singled and drove in a run in Beardstown’s 9-3 season-opening loss to Camp Point Central.  

Chase Roberts, Mount Pulaski: Roberts singled and scored a run, but St. Joseph Ogden defeated Mount Pulaski 3-2 on a walk-off error in the bottom of the seventh inning. 

SOFTBALL 

Game of the Day 

Petersburg PORTA 4, Carrollton 0 (8 innings) 

Mackenzie Miller tossed a scoreless complete game, and PORTA scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to post the win. 

Regan Heubner scored the first run on a wild pitch in the eighth, and Avery Sergent singled, plating two more runs. Keagan Shanle’s RBI single made the score 4-0. 

Miller allowed six hits, struck out two and walked two. 

Stars of the Day 

Emma Selhime, Pawnee: Selhime fanned 11 batters, walked one and threw a five-inning one-hitter in Pawnee’s 12-0 victory at Moweaqua Central A&M. Selhime had two hits with a double and two RBIs and Ava Rodriguez doubled twice and drove in two.  

Khloe Kearns/Mia Simpson, Beardstown: Kearns struck out 12 with no walks and threw a two-hit shutout in Beardstown’s 10-0, six-inning win over Hamilton. Simpson (2-for-3, two runs, two RBIs) doubled and homered and Kylynn Maltby (2-for-3) also homered. 

Aspen Kitowski, Pleasant Plains: Kitowski singled, scored twice and drove in two runs as Pleasant Plains defeated Carlinville 8-2. Delaney Murphy (2-for-4, two runs) tripled and Anna Nestler threw a complete game, yielding four hits with six strikeouts. 

Taryn Clarke, Raymond Lincolnwood: Clarke homered and finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBIs in the Lancers’ 11-1, five-inning win over Vandalia. Hannah Jostes (3-for-3, two RBIs) and Ella Jenkins (2-for-4, two RBIs) both doubled twice and winning pitcher Tori Elvidge threw four innings and homered. 

Ella Huelson/Camryn Engelman, Nokomis: The duo combined for six hits and four runs in Nokomis’ 11-8 victory over Ramsey. Huelson doubled and tripled and winning pitcher Cloey Dirks homered.  

Lexi Patton, Buffalo Tri-City: Patton went 3-for-4 with four RBIs as Tri-City defeated Cerro Gordo 15-2 in five innings. Tiffany Farley had three hits, two runs and two RBIs.  

Milan Robinson, Springfield High: Robinson went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs as Springfield lost to Peoria Richwoods 9-6. Maylee Payne finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. 

Elly Painter, Havana: Painter had a hit, scored a run and drove in two in Havana’s 7-6 loss to Tremont in nine innings. Madolyn Howerter (2-for-4, RBI double) was the losing pitcher as Tremont rallied with four runs in the bottom of the ninth and scored the winning run on a walk-off passed ball. 

Avery Lamore/Izzy Janus, Staunton: The teammates combined for six hits and three RBIs in Staunton’s 10-5 home loss to Roxana. Losing pitcher Grace Burris homered. 

GIRLS SOCCER 

Stars of the Day

Bailey Leach, Pleasant Plains: scored a pair of goals and the unbeaten Cardinals (4-0) defeated Rochester 3-0. Caroline Willenborg had the other goal. 

Angel White, Riverton: White scored the game-winning goal in the second half as Riverton defeated Lutheran 1-0. Madison Lavertue got the assist and goalie Briannah Walker had six saves. 

Mylee Ribble, Carlinville: The senior scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second half, as the Cavaliers defeated Jerseyville 2-1.
