Greg Newsome II desires to retire with Giants following offseason deal

Greg Newsome II has no intention of leaving New York anytime soon.

Newsome told reporters on Friday that he looks forward to spending the rest of his career with the New York Giants after signing with the team in free agency.

“This was one of the most important teams for me to go to. I just felt like from leaving Cleveland to going to Jacksonville, I didn’t finish the way that I wanted to, so I assumed that this could be a possibility to sign a one year,” he said. “I’m excited to be here. I feel like this is an opportunity for me to be here long-term.

“There (were) other places that could have had a little bit (of a) longer-term deal, but I wanted to be here, and I wanted to showcase myself in front of the New York fan base and my coaches and players. I’m excited to start fresh here now and hopefully, we get something done where I can retire a Giant, because that’s what I want to do.”

Newsome agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $10 million with the Giants earlier this week. The team announced the official signing on Friday.

The 25-year-old cornerback recorded one interception, nine passes defensed, and two tackles for loss in 2025 while playing for the Cleveland Browns and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He spent his first four NFL seasons with the Browns, the team that drafted him with the No. 26 overall pick in 2021.

Now joining his third team in two years, the Illinois native hopes to make his stay in New York a lasting one and remain with the Giants for the duration of his NFL career.
