The Dallas Cowboys may be disappointing their fans with the lack of big-time free agency moves after promises of busting the budget, but they certainly haven’t been idle. Wednesday was the official first day of the new league year, but Day 3 of roster moves that began with Monday’s opening of the legal tampering window.
The Cowboys made a big trade on Monday and one significant-if-not-budget-busting free agency signing. Other than that, though, it’s been the same typical smaller moves Cowboys fans have become accustomed to. On Wednesday though, the Cowboys’ focus was on cleaning up their cap space and clearing out players who didn’t neatly fit in their plans.
The Cowboys traded away two DTs, first Osa Odighizuwa and a few moments later Solomon Thomas. In return, the Cowboys got the 49ers third-round pick and a move up seven slots in the seventh round. Combined with the two comp picks they were awarded on Monday, their draft haul has been tremendously altered.
Here’s a look at what they are now working with.
Depending on how the NFL calculated playing time and contract rank, the second comp pick could have been for RB Rico Dowdle, who went to the Carolina Panthers, WR Brandin Cooks with the Bills, or cornerback Jourdan Lewis with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Cowboys Current 2026 Draft Picks
The Cowboys do not have their second-round pick due to trading for the Jets’ Quinnen Williams. Their third-round pick went to the Steelers for WR George Pickens. Their sixth-round pick went to the Giants in the Jordan Phillips trade of 2024.
Their 2026 seventh-round pick the Cowboys received back from New York in the Phillips trade was sent to the Cincinnati Bengals for LB Logan Wilson last year. The Cowboys’ own 2021 seventh-round pick went to the Buffalo Bills for Kaiir Elam in a trade last spring. The seventh-round pick they included in the Thomas trade came from the Kansas City Chiefs in the Peyton Hendershot trade.
The NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. Central.
