Man brawls with police at New Hartford Walmart after attempted theft

A 27-year-old was arrested and charged after attempting to steal over 100 assorted items from Walmart and fighting with police, according to a statement from the New Hartford Police Department.

On March 10, the New Hartford Police Department was called by Walmart loss prevention officers who were conducting surveillance on a suspect inside the store.

Police say Brandon Trask, no permanent address, was observed selecting over 100 assorted items having a total of $2,000. Trask then exited the store, passing all points of purchase without making any attempt to pay for the 100 items.

Trask was stopped and detained by loss prevention and police were contacted, authorities said.

Upon arrival, New Hartford Police Department officials said Trask attempted to flee from loss prevention but was apprehended by arriving police.

Police said Trask first ran, then became trapped inside a vestibule area of the store, where he began to fight with New Hartford Police officers who were arresting him.

Once taken into custody, police said Trask was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.

Trask was arraigned in Oneida County Central Arraignment Part Court.
