The New York Giants have been busy during the first few hours of the NFL’s legal tampering period. No contracts can be made official until 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 11, but teams are reaching out to prospective free agents to see who they can land ahead of time.
One of the players the Giants have agreed to terms with is punter Jordan Stout, which is why the team plans to part ways with punter Jamie Gillan, reports ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
Gillan joined the Giants in 2022 after playing for the Cleveland Browns for almost three seasons and spending some time on the Buffalo Bills practice squad in 2021. He essentially followed Brian Daboll to East Rutherford, and with Daboll gone and the Giants’ special teams struggles, it’s no surprise that they plan to move on from Gillan.
Over his four seasons with the Giants, Gillan punted 280 times and averaged 40.5 yards per punt while reaching the end zone 19 times. His release will free up cap space to help cover Jodan Stout’s contract.
