A Peoria man pleaded guilty to aggravated battery charges Monday after he shot a man multiple times in South Peoria in April 2024, leaving multiple bullets still lodged in his body.
Aubrae M. Harper, 45, was accused of shooting and injuring a man on April 6, 2024, in the 800 block of South Western Avenue, with the multiple gunshot wounds leaving behind two bullets that remain lodged in his body to this day. In exchange for Harper’s guilty plea Monday, prosecutors with the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office agreed to a maximum prison sentence of 25 years, five years below the allowed maximum.
The state’s attorney’s office said that on the night of the shooting, the man was dropped off at the location and began to walk through the area. However, Harper soon approached and demanded money before shooting him three times in the arm, the side of his abdomen and his buttocks.
The injured man contacted a family member after the shooting to transport him to a local hospital, where staff alerted Peoria police to the shooting. In an interview days later, the victim identified Harper as the man who shot him.
Sentencing is set for April 22 at 1:15 p.m., with Peoria County Circuit Judge Stephen Kouri presiding over the proceedings.
