Couple arrested following stolen vehicle pursuit through Broome County

A Binghamton man and a Harpursville woman have been charged following a winding, high-speed stolen vehicle pursuit in Broome County that ended on Harry L Drive.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol observed a car traveling over the speed limit at about 10 p.m. on Feb. 26 in the area of State Route 17 in the Town of Vestal. The car, a white Infiniti G35, matched the description of a vehicle that had been stolen in Binghamton and was “swerving dangerously” between vehicles, according to the sheriff’s office.

The responding deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, Romario M. Robinson, 28, failed to comply. He was accelerating to speeds exceeding 120 mph while continuing east on Route 17 through Binghamton and onto Interstate Route 81 north into the Town of Chenango.

Robinson fled east onto Interstate Route 88 through the Town of Fenton into Colesville, taking Exit 4 onto State Route 7 eastbound before abruptly turning, skidding and reversing direction to travel westbound on Route 7 onto Nowlan Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

The high-speed pursuit continued south onto Stratmill Road in the Town of Fenton, north onto Old State Road, east onto Loughlin Road in the Town of Kirkwood, east onto Court Street and north onto Interstate Route 81 in the City of Binghamton. Road patrol members deployed spike strips on the vehicle’s tires as Robinson fled back onto Route 17 westbound in the Village of Johnson City.

Robinson then took Exit 71 onto Harry L Drive heading east and reportedly lost a tire before ultimately driving into the parking lot of 560 Harry L Drive where he allegedly continued to evade patrols, driving through parking spaces, maneuvering around buildings and swerving around patrol vehicles before being surrounded near the front of the Food & Fire restaurant.

After issuing verbal commands, Robinson complied and was taken into custody. While he was being taken into custody, restaurant employee Shelby J. Medovich, 28, exited the restaurant and approached the stolen vehicle, allegedly ignoring verbal commands from law enforcement and began attempting to interfere with the investigation.

Medovich was taken into custody. The investigation revealed that she is Robinson’s partner and she had registered the stolen vehicle in her name, according to police.

Robinson was charged with the following:

Medovich was charged with the following:

Robinson and Medovich were processed and brought before Central Arraignment, where they were released on their own recognizance.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, Johnson City Police and the Endicott Police Department.
