The Milwaukee Health Department temporarily closed The Wicked Hop bar in the Third Ward following the discovery of roach activity.
On Feb. 25, health officials conducted a routine inspection at a separate facility that shares a basement space with The Wicked Hop when they observed dead roaches throughout the basement, according to the health department.
Inspectors then went to the bar, located at 345 N. Broadway, and observed live roach activity in the kitchen and the health department then shut down food sales.
During a follow-up inspection on Feb. 26, inspectors found more live roach activity in the kitchen, so the establishment remains closed.
Owners for The Wicked Hop couldn’t immediately be reached for comment, but the health department said the owners are working with a licensed pest management company to address the issue.
The health department has a follow-up inspection planned for Feb. 27.
