As Iowa basketball (19-8, 9-7 Big Ten) looks to rebound from a frustrating 84-71 loss at Wisconsin on Feb. 22, the Hawkeyes return home to host a crucial Wednesday night matchup against Ohio State (17-10, 9-7 Big Ten) from Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Despite senior guard Bennett Stirtz once again carrying the Hawkeyes offense with 23 points on 9-for-16 from the field, 3-for-8 from 3-point territory, and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line, the Badgers’ 10-0 scoring run late in the second half buried any hopes of a comeback victory in Madison.
Unfortunately, a recurring theme for the Hawkeyes lately has been a lack of scoring depth to supplement Stirtz’s 20.6 points per game average, as Tavion Banks (10.7) and Alvaro Folgueiras (8.3) are the team’s second- and third-highest scorers through 27 games played.

Meanwhile, Ohio State is coming off a 66-60 loss at Michigan State on Feb. 22, where senior guard Bruce Thornton scored 32 points on 12-for-22 from the field, 2-for-8 from 3-point range, and 6-for-8 from the charity stripe in 40 minutes of action.
While Ohio State has other skillful players, Thornton’s team-leading 20.4 points per game on 54.6% shooting and 27-point average over the past four games firmly positions him as the Buckeyes’ best offensive weapon.
