Electronic Benefits Transfer cards for 5,554 Iowans who receive SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, benefits were inadvertently canceled and later reissued, Iowa’s Department of Health and Human Services says in a Facebook post.
The department did not say in the Thursday, May 28, post what caused the cancelations and it would not answer questions from the Des Moines Register about how the mishap occurred, who was responsible or if any precautions were taken to prevent it from happening again.
“New replacement cards have been issued and should arrive in 5-7 days,” the department wrote, “Please do not request a new EBT card because a new card has already been issued.”
Customers with questions are instructed to contact DHHS customer support at 877-347-5678.
