A passion found in 'Stranger Things' colored eyelashes

Esthetician and eyelash artist Kaitlyn Golden eyes a collage of photos from “Stranger Things” on her phone as she picks out lashes for her client that match the collage. “House of Wax” (2005) plays silently on the television in Golden’s pop culture-themed space in Broad Ripple.

Golden, 24, has been an eyelash artist and esthetician for four years, exploring themes and colors from movies and pop culture for her clients.

“[It] gives me a chance to explore stuff that I enjoy that a lot of other people do too, and they wouldn’t even think to correlate it with my profession,” she said.

She didn’t find her niche right away. At the start of her career, she found little creativity in her eyelash sets.

“It felt very bland,” she said. “Everything kind of looks the same. There’s no creativity, no art.”

After this realization, she started incorporating her favorite movies and movie characters, including Jack Frost and Coraline, into her facials and eyelash sets. She started posting her work to social media, where she found a community of expressive clients.

“Nowadays, it feels like it’s cringey to be an adult and still like what you like because you get called a ‘Disney adult,’” she said. “So I kind of found my community of people that like the stuff I like.”

Golden said she is grateful to be at the point in her career where she can pick and choose the eyelash sets she creates for her clients.

“It’s fun. I love it,” she said. “I really cherish my clients and the time I get with them.”
