We have not forgotten Bucs WR Emeka Egbuka not getting any ROTY votes

The NFL Honors ceremony delivered the usual mix of star power, speeches, and expected winners, but one result quietly stood out once the ballots were revealed. Despite a productive and steady rookie season, Emeka Egbuka received no votes for AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, a surprising outcome that underscored how narrow and narrative-driven the awards season can be.

Egbuka entered the night as part of a deep and competitive rookie class. Egbuka was viewed as the favorite to win the award after the first five weeks of the season, while smashing rookie records, so the complete absence of votes was still striking given his role throughout the season. From early weeks through the playoff push, Egbuka was a consistent presence in his offense, trusted in key situations, and often tasked with difficult matchups that did not always translate into headline numbers.

The Offensive Rookie of the Year award ultimately followed a familiar pattern.

Voters leaned heavily toward volume production and breakout narratives, rewarding players whose seasons were easy to summarize with gaudy totals and weekly highlights. In that context, Egbuka’s game-by-game reliability may have worked against him. His value showed up in route discipline, contested catches, and situational football, areas that are harder to quantify and easier to overlook on a ballot. Ending the season on a quieter note likely dimmed his spotlight as well.

NFL Honors nights are designed to celebrate the league’s brightest moments, but they can also expose the fine line between recognition and anonymity. Egbuka’s zero-vote finish does not reflect how coaches and teammates viewed his season, nor does it erase the trust he earned as a rookie. If anything, it reinforces a reality many players face early in their careers: awards often lag behind impact.

As the league turns the page toward next season, Egbuka leaves his rookie year without hardware but with a clear foundation – and almost a guaranteed chip on his shoulder.
