LAFAYETTE, IN — Tippecanoe Superior 2 Judge Steve Meyer, and his wife, Kim, attended Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony for Tippecanoe Superior 1 Judge Kevin McDaniel, with Meyer administering the oath of office.
The Meyers were shot Jan. 18 inside their home in what prosecutors say was a gang hit to block Thomas Moss’s trial scheduled for Jan. 20.
Kim Meyer was wounded in her hip and was released from the hospital Jan. 18 after treatment. Steve Meyer was transferred to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of his wound to his arm.
In a video of Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony, Meyer appeared to have unimpeded use of both arms as he held a paper with the words to the oath in his left hand and raised his right hand to administer the oath.
The ceremony was attended by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Loretta Rush, all of the county’s six other judges, and three magistrates.
McDaniel’s three children concluded the swearing-in ceremony by each rapping the new judge’s gavel once.
McDaniel was appointed last month to replace retiring Judge Randy Williams.
McDaniel is running for election to the bench in November’s election. He is running unopposed on the Republican ticket, and no Democrats are running for that office.
