Florida A&M basketball teams left Huntsville empty-handed on Saturday, Jan. 31.
The Rattler women shot 29 percent from the field and 21 percent from three-point range while losing to the top Southwestern Athletic Conference team, the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, 63-50.
FAMU guard Shaniyah McCarthy led the Rattlers with 13 points. Tahniyjia Purifoy followed with 10 points.
The Rattlers have lost three straight and hold a 5-15 overall record and a 4-5 mark in the SWAC.
On the back half of the SWAC doubleheader, FAMU men’s basketball couldn’t shake an icy first half versus Alabama A&M.
Despite shooting 16-26 from the field and five of eight from beyond the arc, it wasn’t enough as the Rattlers suffered their second consecutive loss, 72-65.
The Rattlers had three double-digit scorers, led by forward Tyler Shirley’s 16. Jordan Chatman contributed 14, and Antonio Baker Jr. had 12.
FAMU men’s basketball is now 8-11 and 5-3 in SWAC games.
It returns to action on Monday, Feb. 2, at Alabama State, with a tipoff time of 7 p.m. Eastern. SWAC TV will broadcast the game.
Alabama State (6-15, 3-5 in SWAC) lost to SWAC leader Bethune-Cookman 69-54.
FAMU women’s basketball’s next game is on campus at the Al Lawson Center, when it hosts Prairie View A&M on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
Prairie View A&M is 2-18 and 0-9 in SWAC games after losing to Texas Southern 72-63.
