NFL salary cap to surpass $300M for the first time in 2026, per report

The NFL’s personnel decision makers will be working with a $300 million-plus salary cap for the first time in league history ahead of the 2026 season.

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero on Friday reported the NFL informed clubs it was projecting a salary cap in the range of $301.2 million to $305.7 million for the upcoming 2026 season. That range is up from the 2025 salary cap of $279.2 million, and will mark the first time in NFL history the salary cap surpasses $300 million.

Depending on the final salary cap figure for teams, 2026 could produce the largest year-over-year cap increase since at least 2013.

Before we get to 2026, the NFL is still closing out the 2025 league year, which continues with the Feb. 3 Pro Bowl Games and the Super Bowl on Feb. 8.

The NFL Combine will be staged in Indianapolis later in February in preparation for the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh (April 23-25).
