Bears QB Caleb Williams shares what he's working on this offseason

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams made huge strides in his second NFL season and first under new head coach Ben Johnson. But the exciting thing is he’s just scratching the surface of his potential.

Williams set a franchise record with 3,942 passing yards in a single season, surpassing Erik Kramer’s mark of 3,838 yards set in 1995. He also fell just short of becoming the Bears’ lone 4,000-yard passer, a mark that he’ll no doubt come close to or will surpass in 2026. Williams also established himself as one of the NFL’s most clutch quarterbacks with an NFL-record seven fourth-quarter comebacks between the regular season and postseason. While Williams showcased his incredible potential, there’s still plenty of things to clean up.

Following the conclusion of his second season, Williams discussed what he’ll be focused on this offseason, which includes reflecting on what went right, what went wrong and what he can work on to take this offense to the next level in 2026.

“Just every single rep, every single moment that I have in the offseason that I’m working out or practicing and getting those practice kind of game reps is where my mindset’s going to be,” Williams said. “And so, being able to be in the offense for a year, being able to be comfortable in the offense now, being able to go back and look at things I could have done better. Was I too far forward? Was I too far back? Was I not consistent enough with my footwork and did I lean off and fall off the mound, is what we call it. Things like that. So, it’s just super small things to be able to be more consistent for the guys, for the team, be able to keep the offense on the field as long as possible and be as efficient as possible. And so, that’s something that I want to do for myself and this offense and this team.”

Williams made impressive progress in his first year with Johnson, and the expectation is he’ll make another leap with another offseason to fine tune his game and continue to learn and grow under his offensive genius of a head coach coach. Williams is just resting at the floor-level of his potential, and we could very well glimpse his potential ceiling in 2026.
