Homicide detectives arrested a Los Angeles County man Friday on suspicion of killing his estranged wife, and Orange County woman whose body was discovered in Crestline two months ago, officials said.
Gordon Abas Goodarszi, 66, of Rolling Hills was taken into custody Jan. 23, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials and booking records.
He’s accused of murder in connection with the death of his estranged wife, 58-year-old Aryan Papoli of Newport Beach. Her body was discovered on Nov. 18, about 75 feet down a steep embankment in the area of Highway 138 and Crestline Road in the San Bernardino County mountain community of Crestline.
“After the victim, Aryan Papoli, was identified, detectives conducted an extensive and persistent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death,” according to a sheriff’s department statement.
Officials initially said Papoli’s body showed signs of “injuries consistent with a fall.”
But an autopsy determined the death to be a homicide, however, investigators did not disclose how the victim was killed.
“During the investigation, detectives identified Gordon Abas Goodarzi, the victim’s estranged husband, as a suspect,” the statement said.
Deputies then arrested him on suspicion of murder at his home in Rolling Hills.
Goodarzi was being held without bail pending legal proceedings, records show.
