El Paso sheriff's deputies investigate fatal shooting in Socorro

A 33-year-old man died and two others were injured during a shooting in Socorro over the weekend, authorities said.

El Paso County sheriff’s deputies responded to a request for assistance in a shooting investigation from the Socorro Police Department about 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27 in the 10100 block of Cyan Valley Street, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Priscilla I. Contreras said.

Jose Avila, 33, and two other people, whose names have not been released, were injured in the shooting and taken to a hospital for treatment, Contreras said. Avila later died at the hospital.

No further information was released as the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit continues investigating the shooting.
