Courtney Hancock was awarded a vehicle from Sally & Assoc. Auto Sales on Dec. 21, as part of the 20th annual effort to help out someone in need in the Carnation City.

Hancock and her daughter, Lizzy, received a 2007 Chevrolet Impala and one year of oil changes from the car dealership’s owners, Jake Sponseller, Andrea Sponseller, Ryan Wittensoldner and Kelly Wittensoldner.

The two couples took over Sally’s on Dec. 31, 2022, and have continued the giveaway, which also includes other types of support such as Christmas gifts for the families and even food.

This year, among the items the Hancocks received was meat from Fresh Mark. They also were given gift cards, household items and personal items.

More than $1,000 in cash was donated as part of the effort.

Four members of Alliance Friends Church nominated the pair, who also are church members.

In an anonymous comment that accompanied the nomination, one person wrote about Hancock’s efforts to get to her job at Burger King on West State Street in Alliance.

“I was taken by her complexity of life, with the added work of simply trying to navigate transportation,” the person wrote. “She often relies on rides but also works her schedule around the bus schedule. When asked if she had a car, her immediate response was shame. The thought of having a car payment overwhelmed her.”

Hancock recently began experiencing more stress.

“She recently increased her working hours and seems to be connecting the dots of life,” the nominator wrote. “My opinion is that this would be such a God-given hand up for this single mom. Bless you for considering her.”

Another person nominating Hancock praised her as a person.

“Courtney has a teachable spirit, seeks out wise counsel, often steps out of her comfort zone,” they wrote.  “… She is also insightful and intelligent. I believe this would be an amazing choice and result in the exact thing your company is aiming for as you consider who to bless.”

The owners of Sally’s gave thanks to the many groups and businesses that assisted the yearly holiday effort. Among Alliance-area companies and others that gave money or items were Texas Roadhouse, Grinders Above & Beyond, Raising Cane’s, College Inn, Gionino’s, Almost Heaven Ice Cream, MAD Hair Studio, Givens-Grove Insurance, and Shine Now Auto Detailing, along with community members, the owners’ family members and close friends.
