Warriors' Steve Kerr seeking lineup continuity after injury-hit weeks

The Golden State Warriors have struggled with injuries and player availability over the past few weeks. As such, Steve Kerr has been forced to trial multiple new starting lineups, as he searches for a winning combination and tries to keep the team’s season on track.

During a recent post-practice news conference, Kerr discussed the Warriors’ need for continuity and how chopping and changing the starting lineup has made life difficult for the team.

“I would love to get some continuity,” Kerr said. “It’s been tough to string together games with everyone healthy and the same starting lineup. So, assuming everybody’s available in Phoenix, we’ll start the same way we did last game. I’d like to keep doing that to really build some continuity with the starting lineup and then also with the rotation off the bench.”

Golden State has a roster built around aging stars. Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Al Horford are all on the wrong side of 30. However, the franchise also has multiple young talents to lean on, including Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski. Finding the right balance between that veteran know-how and the younger legs has been a difficult balancing act.

Nevertheless, Kerr will undoubtedly want to find a settled rotation in the near future. Golden State can’t start building some momentum until there’s a clear starting lineup and second unit, where everyone has a clearly defined role.

“To be honest, it’s been impossible the last couple of weeks,” Kerr said. “I mean, I don’t think we’ve had Dray, Steph and Jimmy all together since the Houston game, which was, I don’t know, six or seven games ago. And then obviously Pat [Spencer] played so well on the road and I wanted to reward him and we got two wins with him starting.”

Fortunately for the Warriors, the roster appears to be getting healthy. With the majority of players now available Kerr can begin fielding the rotation he believes will give the team the best chance of success. From there, Warriors fans must hope that the team’s injury issues are behind them.
