Woman dead after crash outside of San Angelo

A wrong way crash outside of San Angelo left a 51-year-old woman dead, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened on Wednesday around 9:21 p.m. on U.S. Highway 87 approximately 7.5 miles east of San Angelo, the DPS said in a media release.

The preliminary investigation showed that Angelica Diaz, 26, of San Angelo was driving a 2022 GMC pickup westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway, the DPS said.

Aleasa Ogle of Eden was traveling eastbound on U.S. 87. in a 2022 Nissan Rogue, the DPS said.

Diaz was driving the wrong way, and her pickup struck Ogle’s vehicle head on, the release stated.

Ogle was pronounced dead by Tom Green County Justice of the Peace Thomas Daniels, the DPS said. She was wearing a seatbelt.

Diaz, who was also wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was transported to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries, the DPS said. Weather and road conditions were clear and dry.

The crash is being investigated by Texas Highway Patrol, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office and the Wall Volunteer Fire Department.
