Craig Carton set to rejoin WFAN as afternoon host, report says

Sports radio host Craig Carton is returning to WFAN next year, The Athletic reported on Dec. 2.

According to the sports news outlet, Carton will take over the afternoon drive-time slot, moving the current drive-time show featuring his former co-host Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber to the earlier 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. midday slot and cutting the current midday show with hosts Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata completely.

Tierney and Licata seemed to confirm the switch-up at the start of their Wednesday, Dec. 3 show, which was shared to WFAN’s X account. Licata said the change wasn’t a surprise to them and that they will keep doing the show “as long as we have that opportunity.”

“I spoke to an executive this morning and I know the contract’s not signed … but I also know that Craig will be coming back,” Tierney added.

Here’s what to know.

How many times has Carton been with WFAN?

It’s Carton’s third time with the New York sports-focused station and his second as an afternoon program host.

Carton’s first stint with the station was a decade-long morning show with former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, titled “Boomer & Carton,” before he was arrested in September 2017 on four fraud-related charges.

Authorities said Carton and a co-conspirator were involved in a Ponzi scheme, taking nearly $5 million from investors with a promise that the money would be used to buy and resale concert tickets. Carton was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison and ordered to pay $4.8 million in restitution and served just over a year before being released in June 2020.

Four months later, Carton returned to WFAN alongside Evan Roberts for another four-year stint. His most recent departure from the station came when he left the popular radio show to focus fully on his Fox Sports 1 show “The Carton Show.”
