Ithaca junior Tsadia Bercuvitz repeated as Class A champion with the fastest time of the day Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Section 4 girls cross country championships, helping the Little Red snap Corning’s streak of team titles at six.
Bercuvitz ran the 3.1-mile course at Chenango Valley State Park in 18 minutes, 16.7 seconds. Corning senior Olivia Martinec was the runner-up in 19:34.5, second-fastest time among the four races.
Bercuvitz was runner-up in the Class A race at last year’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association meet.
Southern Tier Athletic Conference winner Ithaca finished with a team score of 26, with Corning second at 52. Seven of the top eight girls times came from the Class A race.
Delhi/South Kortright in Class D was the only repeat girls team champion.
Vestal captured the Class B title and Chenango Forks was tops in Class C.
Forks’ title was led by a win from sophomore Clara Little (21:24.4).
Vestal’s Hellen Zhang in Class B (20:15.3) and Deposit/Hancock eighth-grader Kali Buttacavoli in Class D (20:49.2) joined Little as first-time sectional titlists.

The NYSPHSAA championship meet will be held Saturday, Nov. 15 at Queensbury High School, near Glens Falls. The meet begins at 9 a.m. with Class B girls and concludes with the 1 p.m. Class A boys race.
First-place teams from Section 4 and the top five individuals in each class not on the winning team qualified.
