Sun King, H Steakhouse: When will construction projects be completed in Westfield?

Several projects, expected to transform downtown Westfield, are progressing.

The Union at Grand Junction Plaza, the city’s first mixed-used development, located on the north side of Grand Junction Plaza, is now open.

Residents have begun moving into the apartments at the development, and several businesses, including Pure Barre, Everbowl, Spark Coffee and Lake City Bank, are now open, according to the City of Westfield.  Additional tenants, which include BlackSheep Pizza and Cocktails, Stella’s Ice Cream and Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming are expected to open in the next few months.

The Union at Grand Junction Plaza includes a parking garage with 300 spots and 96 high-end studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. It is located at 170 Jersey Street.

Here’s what else will open in the coming months.

When will H Steakhouse open in Westfield?

Just across Mill Street from Grand Junction Plaza, H Steakhouse is under construction and is expected to be open by the end of 2025.

The $5.5 million restaurant, owned by local restaurateur Henri Najem, will include more than 9,000 square feet, 200 seats and a year-round patio, according to the city.

When will Sun King Brewery open in Westfield?

Just east of The Union at Grand Junction Plaza, construction is continuing on the Sun King Brewery restaurant. Sun King is on track to open in the summer of 2026, according to an update from the City of Westfield.

What else will be constructed in Westfield?

In July, city councilors OKed a development to be built on the northeast corner of Jersey and Poplar Streets, which will be anchored by a five-story parking garage with almost 600 spaces.

That project includes 235 apartment units, 15,500 square feet of office space, 43,500 square feet of retail space and a standalone, high-end restaurant. It also includes two roof decks, one with a pool that overlooks the nearby Grand Junction Plaza, public plaza areas and greenspace with water features.

In May, Westfield city councilors approved a $123 million development, which also includes a public parking garage, this one with 500 spaces. This development will be on southeast corner of Park and Poplar Streets, adjacent to Midland Trace Trail and across from the new Westfield Washington Public Library.

It includes 240 apartment units, 56 townhomes, a public plaza, 29,000 square feet of retail, which the developer believes will be occupied by a restaurant, and 40,000 square feet of office space.

And in January, the city council approved a another development project for the other side of downtown.

The $27 million project, called Ambrose on Main will be built on the northeast corner of North East Street and State Road 32.  It will include 87 one and two-bedroom apartments, with 12,000 square feet of commercial space, including a restaurant with outdoor seating. The project also includes a plaza and courtyard areas spanning 6,000 square feet, a 2,000 square foot rooftop patio and amenities such as a work-from-home lounge, an indoor and outdoor cafe, a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor bike storage and a pet spa.
