Miami football has a history with camo. Maybe the team should have thought about that more before unveiling their new uniform set.
The Hurricanes announced Oct. 23 that they would sport a full camouflage look for its Week 9 home game vs. Stanford. They’re rolling out the new unis for Military Appreciation Day at Hard Rock Stadium.
The jerseys have full camo patching with black numbers and a nameplate that resembles those on various Army football jerseys from years past. The black helmets sport a camo “U”, while the pants are a solid olive green.

Miami has a famous incident involving camo from its glory days that makes this an interesting choice. After the 1986 season, Hurricanes players wore fatigues in the leadup to their Fiesta Bowl matchup with Penn State for the national championship. Heisman Trophy winner Vinny Testaverde threw five interceptions in the 14-10 loss, their only loss between the start of the 1986 season and October of 1988.
Fans did not seem overly thrilled with the new look, especially coming right after Miami’s first loss of the season, a 24-21 defeat at home against Louisville. Here’s a look at some of the prevailing thoughts:
