GIRLS GOLF
WIAA State Championship

MADISON – Emma Cunningham of Green Bay United finished second at the WIAA Division 1 state girls golf championship Oct. 14 at University Ridge Golf Course.
Cunningham shot a two-day total of 2-under-par 142 to finish 10 strokes behind champion Payton Haugen of Brookfield East, who broke the tournament record for low score with a 12-under-par 132.
Cunningham, a junior, tied for 11th last year and tied for 12th in 2023.
The state title is the first for Haugen, who finished second last year after losing in a playoff and also finished second in 2023. She finished seventh as a freshman in 2022.
In the Division 1 team standings, Divine Savior Holy Angels took the title with a two-day total of 621. It was the third state title in a row for DSHA.
Bay Port finished sixth with a score of 667, while Hortonville was ninth with a 734 total.
Madelyn Gicius tied for 11th place to lead Bay Port with a two-day score of 154.
Olivia Kernen led Hortonville with a two-day score of 180.
Spooner won the team title in Division 2 with a two-day score of 694, two shots better than Edgerton. Seymour was 49 strokes behind Spooner in fourth place.
Belle Kongshaug of Colfax/Elk Mound took medalist honors for the third year in a row in Division 2 with a two-day total of 148.
Seymour’s Morgan Lewis was the top area finisher with a score of 169 to tie for eighth place.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

KIMBERLY – The Papermakers needed five sets to beat the Cardinals 22-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-17, 15-12.
“That was an incredible high school boys volleyball match,” Kimberly coach Matt Seidl said. “Both teams played error-free, which made it a very thrilling match. Kudos to Fond du Lac and their team. Neither team deserved to lose tonight.”
Blake Zielinski led Kimberly with 51 assists. Alex Krause had a double-double with 33 kills and 18 digs. Peter Van Grinsven had 10 kills. Ian Van Hammond notched 20 digs, Cooper Baade had 12 digs and Kian Lamers had nine kills.
Kimberly is now 6-1 in the Fox Valley Association.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Fox Valley Lutheran 3, Green Bay East 0
APPLETON – The Foxes swept the Red Devils 25-13, 25-4, 25-11 to stay in first place in the Bay Conference.
Riley Schmitz led Fox Valley Lutheran with 11 digs and had five aces. Alaina Patchett had seven kills. Kenzie Loberger had four kills and four aces, and Emily Matthias had four kills and four digs.
Luxemburg-Casco 3, Waupaca 2
WAUPACA -The Spartans prevailed in five sets 25-23, 25-20, 14-25, 24-26, 15-5 in a North Eastern Conference match.
Alayna Deprez had a double-double for Luxemburg-Casco with 44 assists and 12 digs. Aubrey Frey also had a double-double with 29 kills and 11 digs. Rylan Kaminski and Danica Bartels had 15 and 11 digs, respectively, for Luxemburg-Casco, which is 29-10 overall and 7-1 in the North Eastern Conference.
“They came out of the gates ready and kicked us in the teeth in those first two sets,” Spartans coach Jeff Frey said. “This was a great opportunity for our girls to play in an intense environment with some adversity, as our regional is absolutely stacked, and I loved the way we responded. I could not be more proud of the way our team played with our backs against the wall and the grit we showed.”
Little Chute 3, Wrightstown 1
LITTLE CHUTE – The Mustangs outlasted the Tigers in North Eastern Conference action 27-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-23.
Xavier 3, Green Bay West 0
APPLETON – The Hawks cruised past the Wildcats in Bay Conference action 25-8, 25-10, 25-15.
Leading the way for Xavier were Sydney Neilitz with four kills and 13 assists, Raya Zurfluh with four aces, Braelee Kiepert with six kills, Lexi Allen with four aces and three kills, Rose Kendall with three kills, Bella Velasquez with three aces, Allie Gioffredi with six kills and two blocks, Taelyn Kiepert with two kills and two aces, and Bella Daley with three kills.
St. Mary Catholic 3, Lourdes Academy 1
FOX CROSSING – The Zephyrs outlasted the Knights 15-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-16 in nonconference action.
Leading the Zephyrs were Autumn Crowe with 10 kills, Anna DeWitt with nine kills, Adele Brennen with eight kills, Sammi Weiss with 20 assists, Emmie Weiss with 11 assists and Haley Kane with six digs.

TWO RIVERS – The Lions swept their way to a 25-11, 25-23, 26-24 win over the Purple Raiders in Eastern Wisconsin Conference action.
BOYS SOCCER
Fox Valley Lutheran 3, Waupun 1
WAUPUN – The Foxes took a 2-0 lead in the first half and went on to beat the Warriors.
Cameron Williams scored twice for Fox Valley Lutheran, while Ezra Schaser scored once.
Kaleb Williams had two assists for FVL, which is now 13-3-3 overall.
Waupun is 5-12-1.
Freedom 2, Waupaca 0
WAUPACA – Cal Calhoon scored both goals for the Irish in their win over the Comets.
Sawyer Rueckl and Caleb Kurey both had assists for Freedom.
Gavin Brennenstuhl had four saves in goal for Freedom, which is 4-0-3 in the North Eastern Conference and 10-1-5 overall.
Waupaca fell to 1-5-1 in conference play and 3-11-2 overall.
Clintonville 3, Denmark 3
DENMARK – The Vikings got a pair of goals from James Nellis and one from Landin Thiem as they battled the Truckers to a draw.
Nellis, Lincoln Arneson and Steven Yang each had an assist for Denmark.
Kaleb Whitwam had 10 saves for Denmark, which is now 7-7-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the North Eastern Conference.
Clintonville slips to 6-8-3 overall and 2-3-2 in conference play.
Luxemburg-Casco 8, Little Chute 1
LUXEMBURG – The Spartans rolled to a 5-1 halftime lead in their win over the Mustangs.
Luxemburg-Casco is 6-9-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the North Eastern Conference.
Little Chute, which is 0-7 in league play and 2-12 overall, got its goal from Shaymus Smith. Declan Falk had seven saves in goal for the Mustangs.
Marinette 3, Wrightstown 1
WRIGHTSTOWN – The Marines remained unbeaten in the North Eastern Conference with the win over the Tigers.
Marinette is 6-0-1 in conference play and 9-4-2 overall.
Wrightstown drops to 3-2-2 in conference and 5-9-3 overall.
