The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly signing quarterback Brett Rypien to the practice squad with Anthony Richardson on injured reserve.
Richardson has to miss a minimum of four games.
The addition of Rypien adds another experienced quarterback to the Colts’ roster. While the Colts are bullish on Riley Leonard, this was meant to be a developmental year for him.
Rypien went undrafted in 2019 out of Boise State. In his NFL career, he has spent time with Denver, LA Rams, Seattle, New York Jets, Chicago, Minnesota, and most recently, Cincinnati.
During that span, Rypien has appeared in 11 games, making four starts. He’s completed 58% of his 168 pass attempts, averaging 5.7 yards per pass with four touchdowns to nine interceptions.
As a member of the practice squad, Rypien can be elevated to the Colts’ game day roster up to three times if the team wants him as a backup.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Colts announced that they released cornerback Keydrain Calligan from the practice squad, which created an opening for Rypien.
