During Monday’s press conference, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko released an update on the status of the Aggies’ electric running back after an injury caused him to leave Saturday’s contest early against the Florida Gators.
According to Elko’s report, Le’Veon Moss will miss a significant period of time due to an ankle injury he suffered in the Week 7 victory at Kyle Field. The announcement is not related to the injury Moss suffered during the 2024 campaign, which was a season-ending torn ACL and MCL.
So far this season, Moss has rushed for 389 yards and six touchdowns on 70 total carries. His absence on the gridiron could not come at a worse time for the Aggies, as the program gears up for the challenging Southeastern Conference slate upcoming, including this weekend’s road trip to face the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Although an ankle injury is nagging and the timetable is uncertain, Elko stated Moss should be able to return before the conclusion of this year’s campaign:
Moss has been a dominant force since arriving in College Station as a freshman in 2022. Even with the transfer portal and NIL ruling in college football, Moss has remained loyal and stayed with the Aggies through the transition from former head coach Jimbo Fisher to Elko, who was hired in November of 2023.
In his collegiate career in the Maroon and White, he has rushed for 1,752 yards and 22 touchdowns, even while battling injuries. Up until the point of last year’s knee injury against South Carolina, Moss was reigning at the top of the SEC in rushing yards, which also placed Texas A&M as one of the top rushing attacks in the conference.
Beyond his attributes and abilities on the field, his leadership and seniority will be massive factors that will be missed during his time rehabbing the ankle injury. While there is no understating how important his contributions are for the Aggies, the potential hope of regaining Moss at some point this year is massive news for the program, with everything in front of them moving forward.
