The Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, Cheboygan Police Department and Mackinaw City Police Department have announced the successful conclusion of a multi-jurisdictional investigation conducted on Saturday, Oct. 4.
This collaborative law enforcement effort resulted in the recovery of seven stolen vehicles and the arrests of several individuals on felony charges, including grand theft auto/unauthorized driving away auto, receiving and concealing stolen property, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, and resisting or obstructing.
The operation featured the teamwork and cooperation of multiple Northern Michigan law enforcement agencies.
“This operation underscores the importance of teamwork and cooperation across our agencies, as such a monumental undertaking would be nearly impossible for any single agency to accomplish alone. Only in Northern Michigan — through the combined efforts of our dedicated law enforcement partners — can we successfully carry out investigations of this scope and complexity,” said a joint statement from Cheboygan County Sheriff Todd Ross, Cheboygan Police Chief Scott Rifenberg, Emmet County Sheriff Matt Leirstein and Mackinaw City Police Chief Todd Woods.
“We commend all officers and personnel involved for their diligence, persistence and commitment to public safety. Their collaboration exemplifies the strength of our law enforcement community and our unwavering dedication to protecting our residents and visitors,” the statement added.
As a reminder to all citizens, the statement also asked everyone to please ensure their vehicles are secured at all times, as vehicle thefts and related crimes threaten the safety and security of the community.
