Midway through the fall season, Section V’s Class C divisions are showing off their depth.
Nine total teams in that classification are ranked in the latest boys and girls soccer state rankings. In the girls’ list, Section V features three teams in the top five: Kendall, Byron-Bergen and Geneseo.
The two Genesee region teams played last week, as Kendall knocked off the defending state champions in a 2-1 match. Sophia Piccardo had the match-winning goal for the Eagles, while goalie Brooke Rodas made 12 saves.
For the boys, Section V owns the top spot in four of the six classifications. Undefeated Naples joins Fairport (AAA), Pittsford Mendon (A) and Fillmore (D) among the top-ranked teams. The Big Green have three players with double-digit goals: Connor Betrus (17), Riccardo Izzo (12) and Maddox Mannella (10).
