STURGIS — We’re going to be doing a second athlete of the week poll. This one will feature all the athletes from sports other than football. It will still be the same voting process as the football poll on sturgisjournal.com and carries the same rules.
But we are opening up the nomination process to our readers. If you have an athlete you feel should be up for the athlete of the week award, send them — and the reasons why they should be nominated — to my email address at bwatson@gannet.com. This will certainly flood my emails and expecting to get quite a few, so that will be just fine.
I’m not a video guy, but we were asked to put one together showcasing the new athlete of the week poll. It is ironic, yes, that there is a football player on the opening photo of the video. I still haven’t figured out how to change that, but once I get that all squared away, I’ll have our local athletes in the video. Bare with me, I’m learning.
Our athlete of the week poll is once again sponsored by Glen Oaks Community College! They do the football once as well. Nice people.
Here’s how the process is going to work. Up until Sunday night at 5 p.m., send me your nominations and WHY they should be up for the athlete of the week. I will then compile the list of athletes and have the voting options up on our website Monday morning.
The athlete of the week poll will be open from Monday at noon to Thursday at noon. You can vote once per hour for whomever you’d like and you have the option of voting for more than one athlete at a time. While that might be counterproductive to selecting an official winner, I know there are plenty of parents and family members who do vote for their favorite school / athletes.
For reference, the footballer of the week poll runs from Tuesday to Friday at noon. Feel free to flood that with votes as well.
So get your nominees in! I promise to do my best.
