What Jets coach Aaron Glenn said about Tyrod Taylor starting vs. the Buccaneers

The New York Jets will be led by quarterback Tyrod Taylor in Week 3.

The Jets (0-2) will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-2). Because of a concussion, starter Justin Fields has already been ruled out.

New York head coach Aaron Glenn revealed the news on Wednesday. Naturally, he expressed confidence in the veteran.

“There’s an element within him that we also have in Justin that I like a lot, & the fact that he’s been in the league for a long time, there’s no coverage there’s no pressure that he hasn’t seen,” Glenn said. “So that’s why I have confidence in him.”

Taylor, 36, was slightly better for New York as compared to Fields last week against the Buffalo Bills. In relief, he was 7-for-11 passing for 56 yards and a touchdown against the Bills, however, Buffalo had put in several backup players late in the game.

But to Glenn’s point, Taylor is experienced. In 58 career starts, Taylor has a 28-28-1 record.

As for the QB himself, Taylor said he has always tried to remain ready while in a backup job.

“I challenge myself each and every day to prepare like a starter, cause you never know when an opportunity will present itself, and the main thing is you don’t want to let your team down,” Taylor said via video conference.
