The New York Jets are sorting through some injury issues ahead of their upcoming Week 3 game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Most notably, starting quarterback Justin Fields has already been ruled out for Week 3, due to the concussion protocol. Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor will be under center.
The Buccaneers (2-0) are dealing with their own injuries.
Defensive end Calijah Kancey suffered a season-ending torn pectoral injury during the Week 2 victory over the Houston Texans on “Monday Night Football.” Kancey, a 2023 first-round selection who registered 11.5 sacks during his first two NFL seasons, will miss the Jets’ game on Sunday.
As ESPN noted, the Buffalo Bills were without star defensive tackle Ed Oliver in Week 2.
It didn’t matter, as the Bills embarrassed the Jets 30-10. We’ll see if Aaron Glenn’s squad is better-equipped to take advantage of Kancey’s absence.
Kancey had recorded five pressures through two Bucs games. Head coach Todd Bowles will now be tasked with replacing him. His status is good news for a Jets offensive line that also has Vita Vea, Logan Hall, and Yaya Diaby to deal with.
The Jets are attempting to avoid an 0-3 start. The Bucs are undefeated at 2-0. Kancey’s absence could increase the Jets’ underdog chances on Sunday.
