It’s the kind of “Green and Gold” news that even Buck would have to smile about.
The drama filmed in Door County has hit 100,000 streams since April. That’s not just another impressive milestone for the indie movie about a family dairy farmer who bets on the Green Bay Packers to win the Super Bowl to save his farm. It also means three agriculture organizations benefit from a $100,000 gift from Culver’s.
Earlier this year, the Prairie du Sac-based butter burger and frozen custard restaurant chain pledged to donate $1 for every rental and digital purchase of the movie up to 100,000 streams to organizations that support family farmers. Culver’s, which is also a partner in the film through its Thank You Farmers Project, recently distributed the $100,000 donation to three recipients:
“Having the donation from Culver’s go to FFA via the movie is honestly a dream come true as a filmmaker,” said director and co-writer Anders Lindwall, a native of Iron River, Michigan. “To make a film that can actually initiate practical impact to a meaningful organization like FFA. So special.”
“Green and Gold” stars Craig T. Nelson as Buck, a fourth-generation Wisconsin dairy farmer in the 1990s who puts his faith in the Packers when the bank threatens to foreclose on his land. The film was shot primarily in Door County but also includes a scene near Lambeau Field.
After a nationwide release on Jan. 31 and an incredible five-week run in theaters, “Green and Gold” is available on streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Fandango at Home.
The movie, which landed a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes when it hit theaters, has continued to find an audience on streaming with its uplifting message. It made it to No. 4 on Amazonfor films with a “spiritual genre” component and has consistently been in the Top 10 on the Angel streaming service, Lindwall said. It was featured on the front page of streaming website Hoopla earlier this month for the start of football season.
