The Buffalo Bills have finally started their 2025 NFL season. Their next outing is against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in Week 2.
All week, topics and storylines have been discussed ahead of this battle between AFC East foes. In the end, regardless of what is said by players, coaches, media outlets and fans, it always comes down to what unfolds on the field in the NFL.
And once the battle arrives, there will be a few particular things to keep in mind to look out for.
With that, here are five things to watch for during Sunday’s Bills (1-0) versus Jets (0-1) contest:
Keep a good start
The Bills did score first in their 41-40 win against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. That lead did not last, clearly, as the Ravens got way ahead and eventually a win required a miracle comeback by Buffalo
Not only would it be a good sign to start strong and keep a lead, the Jets have had instances of sticking around with the Bills in recent years.
Stop a good rushing attack
The Ravens got 169 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Derrick Henry on 18 carries in Week 1.
The Jets’ Breece Hall is not Henry, but he is talented. Hall surpassed 100 yards himself in Week 1, so the Bills will have another chance to stop a team that knows how to run the ball. But can they?
Facing a legit No. 1 receiver
A little bit on the flip side, the Ravens had receiver Zay Flowers find chunks of yards last week. He had seven catches for 143 yards and a touchdown against a worrisome safety position for the Bills.
While Henry is better than Hall in terms of rushers, few would say Flowers is better than Jets’ No. 1 wideout Garrett Wilson. Can the Bills improve against that tough test?
Dealing with holes in the defense
It’s unclear if cornerback Tre’Davious White (groin) will play against the Jets just yet. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Ed Oliver (ankle) is confirmed out.
The Bills have to fill these holes. Rookie Dorian Strong did so for White last week but Oliver is an even bigger issue.
Real Josh?
The dust has settled on Week 1, but Bills quarterback Josh Allen had a remarkable game and you can’t take that from him. Is that the real Josh again in 2025? He had 424 total yards and four touchdowns (2 rushing) in Week 1.
