Micah Parsons’ debut as a Green Bay Packer drew a historic number of viewers.
CBS Sports said the Packers game against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 7 at 3:25 p.m. was the most-watched Week 1 game since the NFL returned to CBS in 1998.
According to Nielsen, about 23.9 million viewers tuned in to watch Jordan Love and the Packers destroy Jared Goff and the Lions, 27-13, at Lambeau Field.
Week 1 coverage on CBS was up 15% vs. last year. The second most-watched Week 1 game on CBS since 1998 happened during the noon hour.
Former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers led the Pittsburgh Steelers to victory over his former team, the New York Jets, on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The contest averaged 17.05 million viewers, according to Nielsen. Wisconsin native and NFL legend J.J. Watt provided commentary for CBS during the Steelers-Jets game.
The Packers got the A-team announcers, with Jim Nantz and Tony Romo, also a Wisconsin native.
After being traded from the Dallas Cowboys less than two weeks ago, Parsons got his first sack as a Packer in his debut.
The Packers move to 1-0 and face the Washington Commanders (1-0) on “Thursday Night Football” at Lambeau Field, beginning at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 11.
