Congratulations to Brayden Schwitz of LaVille High School for winning the South Bend Tribune’s 2025 Week 3 Football Player of the Week Poll!
Schwitz received 27,155 votes or 47.12 percent of the total 57,631 votes cast in our poll. Elijah Young of South Bend Washington was second with 15,464 votes or 26.83 percent of the vote among the 16 players on the ballot.
Brayden Pearish, Bremen
The Lions won their first game of the season last Friday night in a 39-0 blowout against Boone Grove. Pearish, a senior, rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 carries, including touchdown runs of 64 and 63 yards.
Logan Moser, Bremen
A junior, Moser rushed for 171 yards on 13 attempts in Bremen’s big win. Moser’s two rushing touchdowns were a big contrast, the first going for one yard and the second for 75.
Max Cornelius, Buchanan (Mich.)
Cornelius had 170 rushing yards on just 20 attempts for an average of 8.5 yards per carry. He also found the end zone in the fourth quarter as the Bucks beat Coloma 38-14.
Char’rese Breveard, Concord
In a close loss to Mishawaka, the Ball State commit rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns on 21 attempts. One score went for 54 yards.
Giovanni Orue, Edwardsburg (Mich.)
Last week’s Football Player of the Week Poll winner made a statement again in the Eddies victory against St. Joseph (Mich.). Orue went for 115 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 rushing attempts, including a 51-yard score in the first quarter.
Alfonzo Newbern, Elkhart
The Lions’ senior running back helped Elkhart secure a win against the South Bend Washington Panthers, rushing for 171 yards on just 18 attempts. Newbern found the end zone at the end of the first half, as well.
Micah Jarrell, Elkhart
The dual-threat junior quarterback rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on 12 attempts last Friday night. Jarrell also threw for 86 yards and two touchdowns on five completions, with his second score through the air going for 37 yards.
Brayden Schwitz, LaVille
The Lancers’ senior quarterback scored five touchdowns in a blowout win against Central Noble last Friday night. Scwhitz threw for 149 yards and four touchdowns on 12 completions, and he also scrambled for a 22-yard rushing touchdown.
Ethan Buskirk, Michigan City
The Wolves beat Chesterton 30-13 last Friday, and Buskirk came up big for the Michigan City defense. The senior amassed 11 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack.
Kadyn O’Neal, Mishawaka
In a 38-34 win against conference rival Concord, the junior rushed 37 times for 280 yards and a touchdown. When O’Neal found the end zone, it was off a 40-yard rush.
Landon Snyder, Mishawaka
The junior quarterback rushed 17 times for 101 yards and four touchdowns Friday night. Three of Snyder’s four scores came in the first half.
Jeffrey Eash, NorthWood
The Panthers senior running back made the most of his 13 carries, taking them for 113 yards and two touchdowns against Wawasee.
Landon Hall, Penn
The junior quarterback passed for 187 yards on nine completions, finding the end zone three times. Hall played for less than three full quarters in the Kingsmen’s big win.
Mason Biernacki, Penn
The sophomore wide receiver finished Friday’s game with 179 yards and two touchdowns en route to a 49-6 win against South Bend Riley. Biernacki had three receptions of 35-plus yards.
Elijah Young, SB Washington
Despite a 34-14 loss to the Elkhart Lions, the Panthers’ senior quarterback showed out through the air. Young passed for 386 yards and two touchdowns last Friday night.
Jayden Overmyer, Triton
Overmyer rushed for a program-record 276 yards last Friday night against Culver, and the senior found the end zone three times as the Trojans won 48-8.
