The New York Jets will have an important matchup to begin the 2025 NFL season when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers, who is being led by former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. New York moved on from Rodgers with the new regime of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey choosing as the starting quarterback, but Rodgers has a message for Jets fans.
“I really embraced my time there (with the Jets) and put as much of myself into it as I possibly could and I really wanted to win there,” Rodgers said during an interview with Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio. Schein asked Rodgers whether he had a message for Jets fans after spending two seasons with the team before asking about the impending Week 1 matchup between the Steelers and Jets.
“Probably nowhere near where it might be made out… a lot has changed over there coaching staff-wise, player-wise, obviously, I had some friendships over there,” Rodgers said when asked by Schein about facing New York for the first game of the season. “It’s one game out of 17. At 5 o’clock eastern on that Sunday, it’s only going to be on to the next game. That’s just the way it is.”
Rodgers, 41, had a solid season for the Jets in 2024 as he finished the campaign having completed 63.0% of his passes for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns while throwing just 11 interceptions in 17 games played. After New York finished the season with a lowly 5-12 record, the Jets decided to move on with Mougey and Glenn, who had his own response to how Rodgers spoke about the Jets and Rodgers parting ways earlier this summer.
“Absolutely. [offensive tackle Armand] Membou’s a really good player, and I am so excited that he’s a Jet,” Glenn said when asked about what Rodgers had to say about the Jets in an recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” It remains to be seen if matters are still contentious between Rodgers and the Jets, but the NFL world will get a glimpse of that on Sep. 7.
