How did Caitlin Clark get hurt?

The Indiana Fever guard left her team’s 85-77 win vs. the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, July 15, after feeling discomfort in her lower body with about 30 seconds left in the game, after a bounce-pass assist to Kelsey Mitchell.

Fever coach Stephanie White confirmed postgame that it was the right groin that the Fever training staff was evaluating. Clark finished the game with 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and one steal.

The ailment marks the fourth separate muscle injury Clark has endured during the 2025 season, a slew of nagging aches after not missing a single game during her entire college career or WNBA Rookie of the Year campaign.

There is no timetable for Clark’s return, but Fever fans got a positive update on Clark on Aug. 24.

Clark took part in some drills at shootaround with the team for the first time in over a month on Aug. 24. She warmed up with her teammates, then worked with the Fever’s backups in a low-impact, non-contact drill during the 15 minutes Indiana’s shootaround was open, according to IndyStar reporter Chloe Peterson.

“It was a good step, because she got out there on the floor with us for the first time, part of the sort of return to activity thing,” White said following shootaround. “But it was all very low, low-maintenance, you know, 5-on-0 low intensity stuff. So I think just getting her back out there, getting her comfortable, and see where she goes.”

White said on Aug. 17 she hopes Clark will return before the end of the regular season.

Clark also suffered a “very mild” bone bruise in her left ankle during a workout on Aug. 7, Peterson reported. Even without the ankle injury, Clark would still be out healing from the groin injury, sources told Peterson.
