El Paso police officials have identified an El Paso biker who died in a motorcycle crash near Fort Bliss National Cemetery over the weekend.
Edward Herrera, 55, was riding a black 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on the 6800 block of Fred Wilson Avenue at a high speed at 2:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, stated a police news release issued by Detective Judy Oviedo on Monday, Aug. 25.
The motorcycle hit the curb and then a road sign, police reported. Herrera was thrown from the motorcycle in the impact and died from his injuries.
Herrera is survived by his family, including two children, and was a member nicknamed “Bender” of the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club, according to a GoFundMe page and the El Paso Boozefighters Facebook page.
There have been 40 traffic-related deaths on El Paso’s streets and highways this year compared with 41 at the same time last year, according to Police Department figures.
