Non-emergency medical transportation is for individuals who need assistance getting to and from medical and other appointments but whose condition does not require emergency medical services.

This type of transport is typically arranged in advance and can include various modes, like wheelchair vans and cars, depending on the individual’s needs and location.

The need for this form of transportation is rapidly expanding in Ohio — and across the U.S. — and the industry is expected to hit all-time highs this year in terms of the number of people served and the number of rides provided.

By 2030, every baby boomer in America will be over the age of 65. In Ohio, adults age 60 and over will make up more than 25% of the state’s population. That means more neighbors, friends, loved ones and community members will rely on dependable, dignified transportation to get the care they need.

These are not just statistics. They’re individuals whose independence and well-being depend on services like non-emergency medical transportation. As we navigate increased demand and expand our capacity, we must continue to uphold the high standards that have made us one of the largest providers in Ohio. Our passion lies in serving more of our communities and ensuring that everyone has equal access to this essential service.

Navigating change with confidence

We’ve heard some of our clients and community partners express concerns related to potential uncertainty brought about by the recent passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill,” such as potential Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement cuts. Thus far, we haven’t seen any impact from the bill, so we wanted to help alleviate some of those concerns.

While the full impact of this bill remains to be seen, our industry must remain committed to our mission. We’ve weathered changes in policy, regulation and funding with one constant: an unwavering dedication to those we serve.

Our success has been driven by adapting, evolving and staying agile in the face of constant change. The most iconic leaders and companies thrive not by resisting change, but by embracing it with boldness and clarity. For us, adaptability isn’t just a skill; it’s a strategic advantage our customers and community count on.

Serving vulnerable populations

Non-emergency medical transportation is a critical service that helps Ohio’s most vulnerable populations stay connected to the care and support they need. While many older adults rely on it for doctor visits, dialysis, physical therapy, pharmacy trips, and everyday errands, they are not the only ones who depend on it. Non-emergency medical transportation also supports individuals of all ages who have disabilities, face economic hardship, or lack access to reliable transportation.

These rides are not just helpful; they are essential.

A powerful example is the transportation needs of children with autism. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in 31 children in the United States is on the autism spectrum. For many of them, traditional school buses can be overwhelming and overstimulating. That is why non-emergency medical transportation provides individualized transportation to therapy-based schools where these children receive specialized care and support tailored to their developmental needs.

Whether it is a child heading to a therapy school, an adult accessing fundamental food resources, or a senior attending a vital medical appointment, Non-emergency medical transportation is about more than just transportation. It is about giving people of all ages the ability to live fuller, more empowered lives.
