A 22-year-old man was killed early Aug. 21 in a fatal fire on College Avenue in the Village of Odessa.
Brendyn C. Hammond was inside the residence at the time of the fire and tragically lost his life, said Schuyler County Sheriff Kevin Rumsey.
At approximately 4:37 a.m. Thursday, the Schuyler County 911 Center received a report of a structure fire at 204 College Ave. in the Village of Odessa, Rumsey said. Schuyler County Sheriff’s deputies responded and assisted fire units already on scene in battling the fully involved structure fire.
Fire departments from Odessa, Montour Falls, Watkins Glen, Horseheads and Newfield responded to the scene and battled the fire.
The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, Schuyler County Emergency Management, and the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office remained on scene past 4:30 p.m. Thursday investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined.
Rumsey said the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Hammond during this difficult time.
