OSU Extension: The power of a logo

If you have not yet heard, the Fairfield County Fair is celebrating the 175th edition of the fair, Oct. 5 -11. Planning for this event was exciting and began in January. One of the goals was to create a logo or an emblem designating this special fair celebration. A logo contest was launched, and within six weeks, 155 logos were received. All different, all depicting the artist’s view of something special about the 175th Fairfield County Fair — the last and best Fair in the State!

The 175h Celebration Committee, made up of Fairboard directors did meet, covered the names of all the participants, and began evaluating. We began evaluating all 155 logos, which were whittled down to the 20 and from those 20 a third look was given to get to the final seven! The final seven were then taken to a Fairfield County Fairboard meeting and the entire Board of sixteen members were asked to vote. The logos came from elementary school children, to high school art departments to individuals who just love the fair! It was so fun to see the ideas and creativity presented.

The final decision was made, and the winning logo belongs to Bennett Nicewanger, who just happens to work at the Fairfield County Courthouse. The logo has been transformed into T-shirts, water bottles, glass ornaments and lapel pins and will even be a part of the ribbons and awards given at the year’s Fair. You can find all this merchandise available at the Fairfield County Fair office, ranging in price from $5 to $30. Hooded sweatshirts will be available very soon. Office hours at the Fairboard office located in the brick building by the white house on the Fairgrounds are Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. until 4: p.m. Please follow along on the Fair’s Facebook Page to learn about all of the fun activities planned to celebrate the 175th Fairfield County Fair!

Would you like to help the Fairfield County Hunger Coalition for a Birthday Bag Donation Drive? Often times, the reality is paying the electric bill, getting groceries vs. a small birthday celebration for a family member. Each donated bag gives parents everything they need to throw a simple, joy-filled party.
