Following the team’s preseason victory last Friday, Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced injury updates on many of his players. From returns to extended absences, there was much to cover in his pre-practice press conference on Monday.
In the quarterback room, Stefanski announced that rookie Dillon Gabriel will return from his hamstring injury and return to 11-on-11 team activities. The bad news is that veteran quarterback Kenny Pickett is still going to be limited to 7-on-7 drills with a more extended hamstring injury. If you can believe it, the Browns had another impact player suffer a hamstring injury in Friday’s preseason game — wide receiver Luke Floreia. With an extensive rehabilitation process ahead of him, the Browns waived him with an injury designation.
When it comes to the better news for the Browns’ offense, backup right guard Zak Zinter will be back at practice today. Zinter missed both the joint practice and the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers due to injury. Running back Pierre Strong Jr. is also expected to return in a limited capacity after missing the preseason opener against the Panthers.
There is, luckily, very limited injury news on the defensive side of the ball. Mohamoud Diabate is also out with an undisclosed injury, and joining him is defensive back Greg Newsome II. While the Browns’ head coach provided a limited update on Newsome II, he reported that he is trending in the right direction toward returning from his shoulder injury.
The medical staff is very busy in Berea with a plethora of injuries, and they hope to see improvement before the next preseason game. The Browns will next visit the Philadelphia Eagles for their second preseason matchup on August 16th.
