One person is dead and two others were hospitalized after an automobile collided with a motorcycle Tuesday night in western Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
The crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on U.S. Route 6 at the intersection with Shin Hollow Road in Gaines Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Mansfield.
The collision took place when a motorcycle traveling on Route 6 was slowing down to make a left turn onto Shin Hollow Road to enter the Rough Cut Lodge, state police said. A vehicle behind the motorcycle did not slow down and struck the bike from the rear, troopers said.
Both the operator of the motorcycle and a passenger were ejected from the bike on impact and landed on the south shoulder of the roadway.
The operator of the motorcycle was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. That person’s condition isn’t known. The passenger was transported by ambulance to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Wellsboro, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the automobile was transported to UPMC Wellsboro for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said.
State police have not released the names of anyone involved in the crash.
The investigation is continuing. Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Galeton Fire Department, Cooper’s Garage and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
