GENEVA, NY — Here’s another reminder that the summer months also bring about construction season.
Bridge work beginning July 28 has the state Department of Transportation advising motorists of traffic pattern changes on state Route 14 between South Cloverleaf Drive and Lake Street in the city of Geneva.
What are the detours for Geneva drivers?
The northbound lane will be closed throughout the duration of the project. Northbound motorists should follow the existing truck route using state Routes 5 and 20, which is marked with permanent signs.
Northbound motorists who ultimately want to travel west on state Routes 5 and 20 should follow the posted detour using state Route 5 East, U.S. Route 20 East, Sessler Drive and County Route 110 (Border City Road).
Motorists traveling south on state Route 14 should continue to use the southbound lane. Work is anticipated to begin on the southbound lane Aug. 7, when southbound traffic will be shifted to the northbound lane. Southbound traffic will be controlled by traffic cones.
When will work in Geneva be complete?
The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of August, state officials said.
Motorists should anticipate travel delays during this time and are advised to seek alternate routes as necessary. Construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
A reminder about traveling safely in work zones
Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
