RICHMOND, IN — A second suspect allegedly involved in drive-by shooting Wednesday afternoon was arrested by Wayne County sheriff’s officers on Friday, July 11.

Hugh Allen Jacobs, 43, is facing charges of criminal recklessness, assisting a criminal and resisting law enforcement stemming from his alleged role in the shooting, according to a news release.

After sheriff’s deputies arrested 21-year-old Gabriel “Ben” Howe over allegations of shooting into an occupied home, investigators say they determined that Jacobs was the driver of a white SUV that Howe allegedly shot from.

In their initial report, the department said that Howe had allegedly fired two rounds from a gun consistent with shotgun fire, and that the driver, identified as Jacobs, had told police Howe threatened to kill him and his dog if he “revealed the truth.”

The person in the home at the time was sleeping on a couch underneath a front window and was uninjured in the incident.

The sheriff’s department said in its release that evidence indicates the shooting was a targeted; there is no apparent threat to the community at large.

Sheriff Randy Retter said in the release that there may be additional arrests and charges as the investigation progresses.
