“The need is greater than our resources can accommodate, and we need your help to help keep families and their pets together during this tragic time,” the release stated.

The non-profit received multiple calls for veterinary assistance after the flood.

“Some of these family homes are a total loss and they have no means to treat their pets for moderate to severe injuries,” according to the release.

A dog named Lane was found injured in the flood waters with two broken legs and is currently in the care of San Angelo Veterinary Hospital.

“While his prognosis is good, the estimate for the necessary surgery and subsequent hospitalization is over $3,500,” according to PAWS. “We need your help to save Lane.”

Best Friends Animal Society, Austin Pets Alive and Wings of Rescue have rallied to help save the lives of San Angelo shelter cats and dogs by working with network partners to find safe placement for adoptable pets.

“The pets relocated are pets that have been in the shelter well beyond their stray hold and are legally available for adoption,” PAWS stated. “These transports prevent shelter pets from being euthanized to create room for the anticipated arrival of dozens of displaced and lost pets.”

The first of several ground transports left for Austin on July 7. From there, the pets will be flown to various northern rescues.

“A total of 75 animals are confirmed to depart this week with other potential transports in the planning stages,” according to the release. “These animals will go to reputable no-kill organizations. The pets will be guaranteed an opportunity to find their forever family. Concho Valley PAWS wants to thank everyone who is making these opportunities to save lives possible.”
